Assessing student learning in 2010

Skeleton1One of the best ways to get tech integrated into the curriculum is by looking at the ways we currently assess student learning and then seeing is any of those assessment can be replaced by using technology. In 3rd grade we have done exactly this by substituting the normal paper and pencil summative assessments with a new technology rich assessment. This year to assess student learning around the human body unit, we decided to try something new with the kids. Using keynote and a number of images kids were asked to look at pictures of the human body and then determine either the bone or body part that they were looking at. They had the option of either recording the answers using the record feature and the built-in mic on the macbook or they could type their answers in text boxes that were provided on each slide of the keynote. Interestingly, most kids decided to type. Click the link below to view the slideshow.
